Can your PC Breath?

Overheating can cause a lot of damage to your PC. To avoid this damage, there are several ways to ensure proper ventilation most of which are free. The easist thing to do is to make sure your PC or POS has a enough breathing room on all sides that have vents. The standard is 3 to 4 inches. This can be challenging in tight cash wraps - so place as much room as you can allow.

Secondly, ensure that the vents of the PC or POS is clear of papers, supplies or dust bunnies - all of which can hinder the fans effectiveness.

Economic Recovery, Strategy To Be Shaped By Government Policies

The good news is consumer spending is poised to rebound in 2010, according to Dr. Robert Genetski, but their are "wrinkles" in the economic outlook which could cloud the picture. Genetski, who delivered the 2010 economic outlook at tekSESSIONS 2009, pointed out that the role of government policy and government spending as leading causes of the recession.

While Genetski predicted a sharp increase in total spending next year, in the range of 6% to 8%, he cautioned that spending could be slowed to 5% or less if credit is tightened by banks who may be forced to pay FDIC insurance in advance to crunch caused by the high number of bank failures this year.

Most retailers are anxious to put 2009 behind them. The lingering effects of the recession cut into top-line sales and left many merchants scrambling to cut costs. Looking ahead to 2010, leading industry analysts predict spending by retailers will remain tight, and the priorities will be centered on areas that can provide cost efficiencies, increase sales and also strengthen the relationship with a retailer’s customer base.

In the areas where retailers are planning to invest in technologies, Aberdeen found store operations and CRM initiatives would be a top priority.

Why Hire Gen Y?

December 21, 2009

© Jason Ryan Dorsey, The Gen Y Guy

Why should Ihire Gen Y? Employers ask me this question every day. Then they start in with their stories about people my age. One ofmy recent favorites: “I know all about employing your generation. Last year I hired a young guy right out of college. He had good grades and seemed like a hard worker. A week later I’m in the company bathroom and I hear him talking on his cell phone in a restroom stall. And his phone was on speaker! Even worse, he didn’t think he was doing anything wrong. He just kept talking and talking.”

Okay, I get it. My peers and I can be a little different when we enter the workplace (which is, on average, about 10 minutes later than you’d like).

Though the Christmas countdown is in its final stages, it seems shoppers still have plenty of shopping left to do. According to NRF’s 2009 Holiday Consumer Intentions and Actions Survey, conducted by BIGresearch, the average person had completed 46.7 percent of their holiday shopping by the second week of December, less than the 47.1 percent completed by this time last year. This is the lowest percentage since 2004, when the average person had completed 46.3 percent of their shopping by the same period.

The next major Sunrise date in the US for GS1 DataBar™ is almost upon us. GS1 US had recommended, "that retailers in the business of selling loose produce and processing manufacturer coupons begin preparing point-of-sale hardware and software systems to scan and process GS1 DataBar symbols and numbers by January 1, 2010."

Ubiquitous use of these smaller, data-rich bar codes by January 1, 2010 will not quite be a reality, yet their use is becoming more pervasive, and the benefits of their eventual full implementation should neither be dismissed nor ignored.

Our PED/ PIN Pad Encryption facility is up and running! Only "street legal" for about 30 days and to date, about 10,000 units in the queue to be encrypted.... We are quickly learning - there is still much to be learned here! As we go through the process, we thought we might be able to provide some additional "value" in this area to our customers by sharing some of what we are learning.
