Don't forget the cable...

When sending in equipment for repair that uses a separate power supply or communication cable, be sure to send it along with the repair. Sometimes the problem is actually the communication cable and not the device. For example, there could be a pinched wire inside the cable that is not visible on the outside. By including the cable, we can cover all possible scenarios for the device, eliminating a NTF and ensuring the unit is fixed properly the first time!

Product Spotlight: Epson TM-T88V POS Printer

June 23, 2010

Epson’s TM-T88V single-station thermal printer with USB interface was tested against ten same-class competitive models, including thre Star, three Citizen, two Bixolon, one IBM and one Ithaca. Testing results indicate that the Epson TM-T88V uses between 68% and 89% fewer kilowatt hours as compared to the next best performing and worst performing models tested. In addition to its high energy efficiency, the TM-T88V enables users to reduce receipt length by 25% or more, without altering receipt content, by using a combination of paper-saving features including top margin reduction, line space reduction, line feed reduction and barcode height reduction. Low energy consumption and paper-saving features combine to significantly reduce the TM-T88V printer’s long-term cost of operation.

Reducing operating costs through the use of sustainable, energy-saving products is a core objective of both retail and financial organizations. ENERGY STAR reports that a 10% decrease in energy costs has an impact on operating income equal to a 1.26% increase in sales for the average retail store. Bank Technology News’ April 2010 issue recently ranked America’s Greenest Banks, stating their increased focus on efficiency and energy conservation.

“Customers are looking for reliable, cost-cutting technologies that have the least environmental impact,” said Mike Helm, Director of Sales and Marketing, Epson System Device Group. “The TM-T88V is the gold standard in thermal printers, both in efficiency and performance. Epson’s commitment to environmentally-conscious design and manufacturing continues to be at the forefront of every product we bring to market.”

Runs Fast – Jumps High - Wed, 23 June

The challenges of today’s retail warehouse operating environment are pretty self evident. Time to make decisions has evaporated, pressures on cost containment abound, and customer satisfaction measures are paramount to retention during the roughest of times. These challenges bring to mind the definition of “an athlete” from my favorite childhood coach, “run fast, jumps high."

Compromised point of sale (POS) PIN entry devices (PEDs) have been used in tampering and skimming attacks to capture PIN and magnetic stripe card data. Visa members must take action to mitigate the risks introduced by these compromised POS PEDs. Although some of the recently identified POS PEDs are newer devices, many are over 10 years old and were never evaluated by an independent lab or approved by Visa or the Payment Card Industry (PCI).
