Don't forget the cable...

When sending in equipment for repair that uses a separate power supply or communication cable, be sure to send it along with the repair. Sometimes the problem is actually the communication cable and not the device. For example, there could be a pinched wire inside the cable that is not visible on the outside. By including the cable, we can cover all possible scenarios for the device, eliminating a NTF and ensuring the unit is fixed properly the first time!

Is your touch screen not responding correctly?

April 22, 2010

Touch screens are a great technology and can make life much easier when they respond properly, but like any other technology, sometimes they don't function as they should. Try these quick and easy tips when the screen is not responding properly.

Tip #1: ONLY use the device its meant for. While some PDTs (Portable Data Terminals) use a “stylus” pen, other all-in-one terminals use your finger. Never use anything else other than what is designed for your terminal. Other instruments could scratch or tear the touch causing permanent damage.

Tip #2 - Clean it. When the touch screen isn't responding properly, its possible it just needs to be cleaned. Clean the touch screen with water or rubbing alcohol ONLY. Other solvents may be harmful for the plastics.

Tip #3 - Calibrate it. If the device is still not responding after it has been cleaned, try calibrating it. Some devices have a specific program used to re-calibrate the screens. Check with a supervisor, manager or your helpdesk for further assistance.
