Can your PC Breath?

Overheating can cause a lot of damage to your PC. To avoid this damage, there are several ways to ensure proper ventilation most of which are free. The easist thing to do is to make sure your PC or POS has a enough breathing room on all sides that have vents. The standard is 3 to 4 inches. This can be challenging in tight cash wraps - so place as much room as you can allow.

Secondly, ensure that the vents of the PC or POS is clear of papers, supplies or dust bunnies - all of which can hinder the fans effectiveness.

The New Norm for IT

February 17, 2010

Last week I had the pleasure of attending the Intermec Partner Conference in Orlando. What a great conference! Intermec clearly has a very innovative, aggressive and aligned partner strategy moving forward. I believe we will all hear more about Intermec and their products within our retail vertical in the years to come.

During the conference, I was able to participate in a presentation by Tiffani Bova, VP of Research for Gartner. During her presentation, she outlined what Gartner saw as the "new norm for IT." I thought I'd share those with you.

  1. World class is being replaced by "it's good enough";
  2. A more practical view of what IT can do for the business is in place, less risk taking;
  3. 2009 is the new norm, meaning if you lowered your prices in 2009, you will not be able to raise them in 2010;
  4. If the vendor business leader is not there to support a project, IT will NOT do it;
  5. Simplify and consolidate;
  6. Business agility is about contraction and expansion;
  7. New business IT models are emerging (SAAS, Cloud, etc.)
  8. Much greater transparency in business and IT is and will be present.

Lastly, she highlighted that according to CIO's, about 50% of what their thinking about is purely about growth and innovation. This message, along with many others we've heard, just confirms our internal vision at tekservePOS. Execute with precision what we've been hired to do while providing additional value results in lower costs and / or increased efficiencies for our customers. We look forward to continuing to learn more about what value means to you!

Going Green seems to be a very hot topic these days. With consumer energy costs on the rise, as well as environmental concerns, running an energy efficient business is not only the smart thing to do, but it can also bring a positive perception of your business.

Our PED/ PIN Pad Encryption facility is up and running! Only "street legal" for about 30 days and to date, about 10,000 units in the queue to be encrypted.... We are quickly learning - there is still much to be learned here! As we go through the process, we thought we might be able to provide some additional "value" in this area to our customers by sharing some of what we are learning.
