Virtualization is not just a passing trend

You ask a lot of your IT systems. And the reality is, to make your business more agile you ask even more. If your IT staff spends all of their time worrying about security, uptime and capacity problems, they won’t be working with you to drive innovation. You need your infrastructure to help you in the marketplace, to help you innovate, to help you be more competitive, to help you succeed.

Today, success demands agility. You need to adjust to changes in your business, from your customers, and in the world. To achieve optimum IT flexibility and performance, a significant number of mid-market firms have set their sights to have 100% of their servers virtualized within three years. It is anticipated that by year-end 2012, 40% of mid-market firms will have virtualized more than 80% of their server infrastructures.

IBM offers virtualization solutions designed to help your business be more agile, reliable, and cost-efficient. To learn more, I encourage you to read a whitepaper from IBM and VMware titled, “"Highly-Scalable Virtualization: Optimizing your Infrastructure with IBM eX5 and VMware vSphere."

Following is an except:

Lower cost per virtual machine
One particularly compelling benefit of processor-rich IBM System x hosts: lower cost per virtual machine. Because of their exceptional computational power, IBM System x servers allow for similarly exceptional consolidation ratios; quite literally, organizations can accomplish more, yet use far fewer systems. This consolidation, in turn, translates into less money required for each virtual server those systems support. The IBM System x3850 X5, x3690 X5, and the HX5 can be used to consolidate the workloads of many two-processor systems for typical virtualization deployments. As a result, the cost per virtual machine can drop significantly..."

The case for virtualizing your IT infrastructure is compelling and proven. This is one trend that is here to stay. Don’t miss out.
