Going Green seems to be a very hot topic these days. With consumer energy costs on the rise, as well as environmental concerns, running an energy efficient business is not only the smart thing to do, but it can also bring a positive perception of your business.

Energy conservation does not have to be a difficult process to integrate into your business. Many basic things can be done that cost little or no money - or even save money:

  • Recycle bottles, cans, paper, etc.
  • Reuse packaging materials and printer paper - print on both sides of the paper
  • Replace light bulbs with compact fluorescent or LED lights (LED Lights are 2.5 times more efficient than compact flourescent and 10 times more efficient than incandescent)
  • Unplug electronic devices that are not being used (such as printers and water coolers at night)

Additionally, for large retail or restaurant chains, minor tweaks to your POS System collectively make a significant difference on your power consumption - and bottom line. By properly setting the power management options within your operating system to turn off non-essential items (such as monitor lights) during times of non-use, you can assure that idle systems are only using minimal power.
